Abortion
A deliberate procedure by which a pregnancy is terminated before birth occurs. This may be done for a variety of reasons such as health, wellbeing, and the personal circumstances of the pregnant person.
Bottom Surgery
A surgical procedure by which the genitalia of a person is altered, often in the context of a vagina to a penis or vice-versa. It is a component of gender reassignment surgery.
Breastfeeding
A natural process whereby a mother feeds an infant directly from her breasts, which produce milk immediately after and sometimes before the child is born.
Gender Reassignment Surgery
Surgical procedures through which a person's biological sex characteristics are altered to conform to their gender. A common example would be a woman who was assigned male at birth having surgery to provide them with a vagina and breasts, to conform with their true gender.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
A medical process through which a person - usually a transgendered person - replaces the hormones of their assigned sex with those associated with their true gender. For example, a transgendered man would take Testosterone shots or pills as they seek a physical sex transition.
Menstruation
The process of a woman discharging blood and tissue from the lining of the uterus, following ovulation, that results in an unfertilized egg. Menstruation typically occurs once a month, though cycles can be irregular. Menstruation is accompanied by cramps for some women. Also referred to as a period.
Testosterone (or âTâ)
The hormone commonly associated with masculinity, which is produced by all mammals in varying amounts and influences sexual urges, aggressiveness, production of sperm, PMS, and more.
Top Surgery
The surgical process by which a person alters their chest area to conform to their gender. This is often associated with a trans man having a total breast reduction, or a trans woman having breast implants inserted.
Uterus
The part of female anatomy that houses the womb and is connected to the fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, and internal vaginal canal. This part of the reproductive system is where a fetus is housed during development and contains a lining that sheds during each month of non-pregnancy in biologically female bodies, creating the "period."
Vagina
The internal and external passageway connecting the female reproductive system to the vaginal opening, or vulva. It facilitates the exit of blood and other menstrual material and also allows pregnancy to be achieved - it is also where a large amount of sexual pleasure occurs for many people, as it contains the clitoris and "G-Spot."
