COVID-19

Thirty-three million workers in the United States don’t have access to paid sick leave. Pregnant women are being asked to show up at work, despite being high risk for the virus, and parents without access to child care are also expected to show up. These are the problems that women’s rights lawyers in the U.S. are being overloaded with in the wake of this global pandemic - and they are doing everything they can to help. Learn More

Pharmacies across Europe are working hard to help victims of domestic violence, which has experienced a spike during the required quarantines to slow the spread of COVID-19. Victims are urged to head to their nearest pharmacy - one of the only community resources still open - and ask for a “mask 19.” Governments and police are working hard to ensure that no one has to remain in an abusive situation, especially with quarantine limiting where they can go. Dolly Parton has donated $1 million to the coronavirus research facility at Vanderbilt University. Parton stated that her longtime friend and medical professional, Dr. Naji Abumrad, told her that their research was reaching some exciting and promising advancements towards a cure. Parton urges others to donate if they can. Learn More

LIZZO

While many celebrities are donating money to coronavirus relief efforts, Lizzo wanted to do something special for those medical professionals on the front lines. Last week, she treated the entire ER staff of Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan to a meal. The hospital quickly shared its gratitude via social media, and the gesture has reminded many that while a cure is necessary, we can’t forget about those humans who are working in the trenches now. PINK

In a growing trend, Pink recently donated $1 million dollars to coronavirus relief efforts for the Temple University Hospital Emergency Relief Fund and the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s COVID-19 Crisis Fund. Pink and her son tested positive for the virus over two weeks ago, and after spending fourteen days in isolation both tested negative. Pink called out the failure of the U.S. government for the lack of available testing and thanked the medical community for being “our heroes.” Learn More

IRELAND

Pregnant women in Ireland are finding that their original birth plans aren’t going to happen. Many soon-to-be-moms who planned on C-sections are being urged to consider home births to ensure the safety of their children and themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic. Others, like Emma Dillon Gallagher, went into labor before stay at home laws were enacted - and left the hospital in a new world. Learn More
